TESTIMONIALS

A BIG Thank you to everyone who shared their stories!
Audrey & Frank Ansell
The Hair Reflection family and our family have shared many milestones over the last 25 years. We watched our children grow up from their first haircuts with booster seats and lollipops to the first fancy up-dos for proms. Even Grandma Margaret got her hair done when she visited from Montreal. Of course we adults don't look any older at all due to the excellent skills of the HR staff. (Thanks Carm and L'Oreal). But our biggest connection is Nick and James and their love of cars and racing! It all started with a Peg Perego jeep and then to F1 races and Camaros. We knew we had a trusted friend when Nick took James to Indianapolis in 2006. There was James, the only McLaren fan with 2 busloads of Ferrari fans from Woodbridge. Hours after they left I realized I had sent my underage son to the USA for the first time without family. My worst fear was the border guards asking James who he was with and he would say; "My friend Nick who cuts my hair." But they crossed the border no questions asked and the trip was a great success. James even learned how to drink espresso. The next trips were to the Montreal F1 in Nick's Camaro with a visit to Grandma while they were there. Nick allowing James to drive his beloved Camaro will be a great story forever especially with Nick busy keeping one eye on the speedometer. He wasn't taking any chances and having a nap with this kid in the driver's seat. So many thanks to all of you for being good friends and for making us look and feel good for 25 years. Congratulations!  We hope to hear Nick's harmonica playing at the party!

The Panko Family
25 years ago Elisabet, Bob, Daniel and Andrew were looking for a family hair stylist that we could trust to do a good job on us.
Up until then it was hit and miss with whomever we could get an appointment with. Both our boys especially Andrew, were fussy with who would do their hair. Elisabet and I were professionally employed and needed to look good in our jobs. So along come this Italian hairstylist named Nick and his lovely and talented wife, Vera.  (Later we found out that Vera really runs the show!!). We thought we would give them a try and now some 25 years later we love to go to see both of them and even Elisabet's mom now comes along. Its not only getting our hair, nail, toes, and face done that keeps us coming back, but its Nick's and Bob's love to talk about cars, racing, and politics as well as Elisabet chatting about vacation and travel with Vera and Carmela.
So CONGRATULATIONS and BEST WISHES on your 25 business anniversary!
We plan to stay and we hope you will too!!!

Almost 8 years ago, we did one of the most stressful things: we moved.  There are many challenges associated with moving a family to a new neighborhood.  New friends, new school…but none are as stressful as find a new hair salon.
I didn’t find Hair Reflections at first.  I went to another salon first, but I didn’t love the cut, it was overpriced and I didn’t feel comfortable there.  So I asked one of the moms at the schoolyard.  I was told that Carmela at Hair Reflections was fantastic.  My next visit was to Hair Reflections and Carmela has been doing my hair ever since.
Except of course for the time that I tried to colour my hair myself with a boxed colour from the drugstore.  That adventure had a horrible outcome.  I wore a baseball hat to drop the kids off at school and called Hair Reflections as soon as it opened.  Carmela’s day off!  Thankfully Nora was there and I trusted her enough to fix me up without making me feel any worse than I already did.
Another fond memory that I have is about a year and a half ago I had to have some testing and surgery.  I was really worried about it and was sharing my story with Chedita and Carmela at the salon.  After Chedita finished my eyebrows they told me that I had won a free manicure.  I was blown away by the act of kindness and felt more supported than I could ever express.  Everything worked out and I am completely healthy today, but I will never forget the kindness of Hair Reflections.
My daughter also gets her hair done by Carmela.   Most recently getting some feathers put in her hair.  How quickly we moved from pigtails to feathers!  With my daughter on her way to becoming a teenager, I’m not sure what comes next but I’m sure the experts at Hair Reflections will guide me through the process.
My husband and son opt to get their hair done at the “Barber” (guy thing I guess).  But in a way I am glad, it makes it a special place for my daughter and I.  Hair Reflections has become my little sanctuary.  When I walk through the door I feel relaxed and comfortable.  I enjoy talking to all of the wonderful people who work there and clients as well.   I always feel and look great when I leave.
Thank you Nick and Vera for having such a wonderful salon with such talented staff.  You are so much more than a hair salon to me.  Hair Reflections is a wonderful asset to the community of Pickering.

I would first like to say I have been visiting Hair Reflecttions for almost 10 years now. My first memory was that of Nick welcoming me to the office a with handshake and an offer of a cup of coffee. A great first impression. For the years that followed Norah has been a great set of ears listening to my trials of life with my three children. As the years rolled on there were many memories that come to mind, that of my daughters firsts with Nora: haircuts, waxing ,my daughter's first Prom, getting dolled up with nails, hair etc. Norah always was also there to help with some of those challenging days of changing hairstyles. The most vivid memory was that of my son Anthony's first haircut. He had never had a haircut since he was born. At 6 it was about time, and it was quite difficult putting on and taking off his hockey helmut.
Oh those beautiful curls. My wife couldn't bare to take him to cut those beautiful curls. It had to done. Norah pulled through with flying colors and after a few weeks and many tears my wife was happy with her baby becoming a young boy.
Thanks for your great service over the years.  Congratulations and here's to many more years !

I have been a client of Hair Reflections for 15+years. Every time I go there it is always a pleasant experience! I enjoy talking with Nick, Vera, Carm and the rest of the Team at Hair Reflections. There is one very special time and that is when I decided to retire.
I went to Hair Reflections to have my hair done for my Retirement party and when I got there, Vera said "We want to give you a Retirement gift, we would love to do your makeup for tonight". WOW--I didn't even recognize myself!!! I walked into my Retirement Party feeling and looking like a MILLION BUCKS!!! How kind was that?

The Demacio Family
For Wesley and Aiden Demacio, a visit to Hair Reflection, is like a visit to see family. Wesley is 8 years old and Aiden is approaching 7, and between them, they have 12+ years of fun times and experiences with Carmella and the friendly staff at Hair Reflection. Here are a few short stories and memories over the years.
Aiden’s First Haircut in 2006. Aiden – We were in the Bahamas for a vacation when my family went to the beach. We were going to go in the ocean for a swim when Wesley said to me, “Hey let’s get a shell for Carmella!” We found the best shell on the beach, and saved it for the next time we would get our haircut, so that we could surprise Carmella! And we did!
Wesley – When I go to Hair Reflection, I can’t wait to get my hair washed! It feels so nice, like I am relaxing and getting a massage. I like when I get to see Carmella, because we always have very long and nice conversations together, like the time when we talked about going to Florida. One time, I evenbrought Carmella outside to my car to see my new hockey stick, which she enjoyed.
Also, one year at Christmas, my brother and I made shortbread cookies with my mom and brought a whole plate for everyone at Hair Reflection!
I always enjoy getting a lollipop when we are finished our haircuts too. It is such a treat!
Wait! After all of this paragraph, I forgot to say the most important thing, THANK YOU EVERYONE AT HAIR REFLECTION!

Joe, Carmel, Peter & David Micek
Flashback.... it's April 1985
Joe, Carmel & baby Peter Micek move from Calgary to the bustling metropolis of Pickering, Ontario!
- Sheridan Mall is still here
- the outdoor flea market is all the rage
- the corner of Whites and Hwy 2 is a pasture
-  and the only place to get a good haircut is.... Olive's
We meet Nick - he's young, handsome, fun and has one heck of an Italian accent.  Somehow we manage to communicate our needs and we get great haircuts!  Who would have guessed that a random recommendation to a rather obscure little salon would lead to a life-long connection! Nick is ever on the move.. a young guy with ambition and a dream.  We follow him from place to place, we're at the Go Station, we're in Markham and then the big move - to his own shop back in Pickering.
We have another son, Nick and Vera have 2 daughters - I'm pretty sure there was talk of arranged marriages until they all became gorgeous teenagers and then deal was cancelled (by Nick) pretty damned quick.
Our Hair...We had mullets & shags, mushroom cuts and undercuts, we were shaved, bleached, highlighted, lowlighted, streaked & foiled.  We were blonde, brunette and red (and now grey!)
We were curly, straight, long and short. Some of us (not mentioning any names here) have significantly less than we did in 1985.
We have fond memories of Hair Reflections - Christmas Open Houses wit amazing (no calorie) treats, always a taste of some good wine or liquor. Who can forget Vera's purple sponge paint treatment???
Nick inherited a new Canadian "Mom" he spoiled and charmed my Mother to bits and she came in monthly from Bowmanville for 19 years to see him. Vera and I went through "knee issues" galore!  I learned way more about F1 racing than I ever needed & where to get the best olives and anchovies, and Hair Relection was full of fabulous information when we took our 25th Anniversary trip to Italy.  I even snuck in a few Italian lessons with Nick.
So here we are in 2012 - a little older, greyer, fatter and hopefully wiser.  So many years of sitting in the chairs sharing laughter & tears, successes and failures, exciting births and tragic illnesses and passings. We shared in Baptisms, Holy Communions, Confirmations & Graduations - driving lessons and so many of life's big moments. All just part of the big picture!
And so, to Nick and Vera, their families and their staff we say a whole hearted Congratulations on 25 wonderful years. Thank you both for all the great "do's" and for being such a constant in an other wise ever-changing world. Here's to many more years. Tanti Auguri!!!!!

My story is about my youngest daughter's hair style for her Grade 8 grad. Originally she had found a picture of the style she wanted a year in advance and the picture had hung on our fridge awaiting the day of her appointment. Then she was in a fashion show about a month before grad and the stylist there had done something really funky for her hair. Out the window with that long standing picture and in with something else. We took pictures from all angles of the 'new' hairstyle and she brought it with her to her appointment!! Her stylist rose to the occasion...actually one started it and another finished it off as of course the salon was busy with everyone wanting the 'best hair ever' for grad. So she had her funky style and a dress made by me for a memorable grad!! Thanks for your part!!
Margaret
One Saturday morning, I went to Hair Reflection to do my hair- unfortunately, I had no choice but to bring my grandson who was 4 years old and my son who was 12. When I arrived at my 10:00 o’clock appointment, as soon as I arrived, I apologized to the ladies of having to bring the boys with me. Vera eased my worries by telling me it’s okay. The boys are fine, my appointment lasted 2 hours. But during my appointment, to my surprise, the boys were as good as gold. The 4 year old danced and entertained the customers and staff and Vera stated it was a pleasure having them there that morning. The 4 year even met a 2 year old girl and they became good friends. The staff and the dad said that she never talked to anyone ever since she was going there but she opened up to Naesean. They were surprised!

One of my most memorable recollections of coming to Hair Reflection was my first time I ever had highlights. I had been considering them and especially after one of my colleagues at work came in with them. So I plucked up the courage to ask my stylist at HR, who quelled all my doubts and fears after some people had given me negative feedback. After careful deliberation on what colours to choose from, we finally made a selection that was to become the new me.
After a couple hours of dying and careful placement of foils, my hair turned from dark to fabulous. As soon as I got home, my husband could not stop admiring my new look and I could not help but notice how people in general reacted to my new look. I have to say that I felt at least 20 years younger thanks to the helpful staff at HR.
They say that the highest form of praise is emulation and I have noticed a cousin of mine with highlights after she saw my hairdo.

My very best memory was of my daughter's grade 8 graduation. Katie didn't wear make-up at the time, but wanted some for her grad. Rather than buying some we had it done there, which was not only cheaper, but much better than I could ever have done. Her hair looked beautiful, which is a challenge, as she has tons of extremely curly hair, and it was put it, with soft tendrils that most importantly stayed that way...
But what made this special for me, was that for my own grad, my mother was ill, so I didn't get to share that mother/daughter experience, and that is a loss I have to this day. But with Katie, as we walked into the salon we were greeted by name, I got a delicious coffee and felt like I was with family as we went through the process of getting her ready. Not only did it make a very special memory for Katie, but it gave me one that replaced the regret I had over my own grade 8 grad. I have a wonderful picture of Katie, but it is framed and on my wall, otherwise I'd send you a copy.
While I  haven't always been able to be a regular customer due to heavy work demands, I always knew that when I walked through  the doors I would be greeted by name, have my family remembered, be offered a coffee and feel like I had returned to family.  That is what makes your salon special, and I wish you even more success in your next 25 as you have enjoyed during the first. With much gratitude and appreciation.

Hair Reflections has the most courteous and amazing staff! My son Derek gets his hair cut every 5 weeks and he loves going to see everyone!  At just 4 years old he knows what he wants and what he likes when he is getting a haircut! Carm gives him the perfect "mohawk" everytime! I am very selective about who does my hair, and Derek's hair and Carm is the only one we trust!  Attached is a picture of Derek getting a "mohawk" from Carm and loving every minute of it!

I am a fairly new client to the salon and when I heard about the 25th anniversary and the chance to share my amazing story of how the salon transformed me and my hair I had to share.
I am young lady who has always struggled to find the proper hair technician to obtain the color that I truly desire. I had just returned home from a trip and my hair was YELLOW!!!!!!!! Not the color that I wanted at all. I traveled to 4 different hair salons previously and no one has been able to give me ash blonde; the true color that I have desired for some time now.
I was referred to the salon for the first time by a friend of a friend who stated that the salon has an amazing reputation and been around for years. It was a big risk for me to take seeing another new hair stylist in the fragile state of my hair, but I needed to have it fixed before the evening time. I felt I had no confidence in myself, because of the look of my hair from the style, to the cut, to the color, to the texture. I truly did not feel pretty or happy about myself, which in turn brought down my self esteem.
When I walked into the salon on a Saturday I was greeted right away with a warm smile and positive energy from the receptionist. The salon was clean, organized and offered so much to see and purchase from a customer perspective. I then was taken to my hair stylist chair where I was then greeted by Nora. My first comment to her was I do not want YELLOW OR ?GOLD hair!!! I stated this in such a serious face, and Nora could see my frustration with my hair. She stated alright no problem I will do my best. After about an hour or so it was coming time to wash my hair, I was so nervous to see the color once it was blow dried.
Then Nora finished and I opened my eyes and to my delight it was the EXACT color that I have wanted for so long, that no hair stylist could even give me. I gave her the biggest hug and felt and looked so amazing. Then the owner of the salon Vera came over to the chair where Nora was finishing off my hair and she complimented me on my hair color and style. She even suggested helpful shampoos and conditioners to help maintain the color of my hair. Vera and Nora made me feel more than just a client/customer, they made me feel like I was of value to them and that they wanted to aid me in my goal of looking great.
I am so happy that I got recommended to come to this salon and be part of such an amazing team of people. I am happier every day that goes by since, because of all the amazing remarks people keep telling me about my hair. I feel confident and proud of myself again and it’s all thanks to Hair Reflection.

I have two very special memories and also would like to add that every time I go and get my hair cut or styled by anyone it is always lovely.
But my special moments are when I first got my son's hair cut at Hair Reflection, that was very special to me and my mother. I will never forget it. Ans also the other very very special memory for me was when I let my hair grow long because my niece Courtney was in Sick Kids Hospital and I saw all the little girls with bald heads and wanted to help them. I grew my hair long and Carm cut it and sent it to the Cancer Centre at Sick Kids Hospital. That made me feel very good about something I could do with my hair and Hair Reflection was a part of that.

Just wanted everyone at Hair Reflection to know that I do not have one story I could tell, I have a whole bunch, since I've been a client for over 12 years now.  Myself and my whole family, husband and three children, all go to your wonderful salon, for our hair cuts and many other beauty services.  We are all treated so wonderfully from the moment we enter your door.  I can truly say that I have never once gone in alone when Nick hasn't asked me "How is your husband and the kids?", how wonderful is that!
My most recent story is about how Carm opened up the salon on a Sunday (upon Vera's urging) no less for me to bring in my lovely seven year old daughter to have her hair done for her First Holy Communion.  I brought in the these beautiful crystal like hair pins that I bought at Hair Reflection 10 years ago when I got my hair done for my wedding.  Well, I can say without prejudice ( picture attached ) that my daughter looked fabulous due to the expertise and talent of Carm, she looked so beautiful with her hair all done up I had tears in my eyes, and so did Carm.
Thank you Hair Reflection, I will continue to praise your wonderful salon to all that will listen, and congrats on the 25 years, may you have 25 more!!!
 Rob Smith
My wife wanted me to try her hair salon, she told me that I would get a much better hair cut there, so I relented and went to Hair Reflection.
Well, I hate to say it but my wife was definitely right.   I've gone to Nick for years now and I must say he really knows how to give a good men's cut.  He totally treats you like a king when you are in his chair, and he gives that special touch to all his customers. If you're looking for a man's man who know there way around a pair of scissors, Nick is your guy.
Congratulations Nick and Vera on your 25 years in here in Pickering,
Kathy Colvin
I have been going to Hair Reflection since I moved to the area in 1999.  There's more to Hair Reflection than the latest styles and great service.  When we were planning a trip to Italy for our 25th anniversary Nick provided many helpful insights and tips to my husband and I that helped make our trip wonderful. We'll be visiting Italy again and definitely visiting Hair Reflections for hair care and more.
Sue Blacklaw
My story with Hair Reflection - I live in the area since you started and have been coming there since Carm started, I have had her cut my hair. My kids came there when they were little and my son just answered his phone while he was sitting in Carm's Chair! Carm has listened and empathized with my woes. She was there for me when I got divorced after 22 years, when my daughter got married, and the last life experience that nearly devastated me! its almost like getting a counselling session and she never forgets what you talk about even when you don't show up for 6 months. My brother has been going to Nick since you opened as well, its a family affair and I have to say the atmosphere there is always fun and personable. Congratulations on 25 years and may you have 25 more!
